About this tool
The Typing Test measures your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy percentage. You choose between three durations — 30, 60, or 120 seconds — and type the text displayed on screen. At the end of the timer, the tool shows your final WPM and accuracy rate, allowing you to track improvement across multiple attempts.
To start, select the desired duration and begin typing in the text field. The timer starts automatically on the first keystroke. The text display highlights in real time which characters were typed correctly and which contain an error, making it easy to spot where attention is needed. When finished, click "Restart" to try again with a new text.
Typing with speed and accuracy is a skill that directly impacts productivity at work and in school. Programmers, writers, journalists, lawyers, and anyone who spends hours at a keyboard benefits from regular practice. The test is also used in job selection processes that require a minimum WPM for data entry, transcription, or customer service roles. For beginners, it is a starting point for assessing the current level before beginning a training program.
Everything runs in the browser, without sending any data to servers. No registration is needed, and the tool works on computers with a physical keyboard.
Frequently asked questions
Is the tool free?
Yes, completely free.
Is my data sent to any server?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser. No typed text is transmitted.
Does it work on mobile?
The tool works on mobile, but the typing test is designed for physical keyboards. The experience is limited on a smartphone virtual keyboard.
What is WPM?
WPM stands for 'words per minute'. In the standard calculation, every group of 5 characters counts as one word, which allows speed comparison regardless of the length of the words in the text.
How can I improve my typing speed?
Daily practice with attention to correct finger positioning on the keyboard is the most effective approach. Focus on accuracy first before trying to increase speed.
